What kind of CAMS should I get to wake up my 2004 Road King Custom?
I have a 2004 Harley Road King Custom ….. It has a 88, but I changed the air purifier to Step 1 already and I will now be on Thunder Header 2 into 1 Exhaust … But I want to put some cams in the engine also .. .. Since I am Dyno'd to do anyway when I put the Thunder Headers on .. I would put some CAMS when I put the pipes .. and do everything at once .. I want more Tourqui for takeoff … so I can wake up the bike .. Thank you for the help.
A VERY strong recommendation, since you cam, are the new Screamin Eagle Cam Plate / Chain / hydaulic tensioner / oil pump kit installed also. The pre-tensioners 07 Spring loaded are known to fail, the channels are currently the cause of premature wear on stretchers. Once the tensioners wear out, particles to destroy the oil pump and cam. The new hydraulic tensioners and chains are not as bad as the first. The new oil pump will also deliver much more pressure and recovery of the lower end toward the pit and help the engine run cooler. THERE IS THAT JET OIL SQUIRT OIL ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE PISTON FOR COOLING THE PISTON ….. This heater UP THE OIL ………. Richen IT UP, the piston run cooler …. This Oil RUN COOLER. Even if the bike is COMPLETELY STOCK ……. HD has done a stage 1 download the ECM …… if you have a Power Commander or Super Tuner on the bike ………. successful dyno TUNED ….. it will increase your performance and make the BEST turn Motor ……………… it … is some information on "downloads from the Super Tuner ……. You want the Screamin Eagle SUPER TUNER !!!!……. and have Dyno TUNED ….. sttle not just to have the base map loaded. The difference between being tuned and a base map is like night and day. The base maps are just that … a basis on which to work form. Each engine is like individaul that we as human beings, they each require a little fine tuning to make them work optimally. The tuner will also Super adjustment easier for any future upgrade you may do so. A 1 download on stage is nothing more than a GENERIC HD card is "OK" for all bikes …. this is crap !!!…… Step 1 download was specifically made for HD Mufflers Screamin Eagle Air Cleaner …… Not all silent (or complete exhaust systems) flow exactly the same and not all cleaners Airflow exactly the same thing … So, if you change something on the exhaust and intake that Step 1 was not designed for, it does work well ….. Broadband is the best fuel controller on the market for Big Twins) you have the adjustable separately IGNTION MODULE AND / OR AUTO TUNE MODULE (09-newer) also …. it will help much !!!!…. HD Super Tuner good, but it works closely band O2 sensor (i like these for Sportster because there is no module to install and hide )….. But he did adjustments ignition the PC does not by itself (it should be added that with additional FP5). Either way, it sounds like you need the bike properly tuned …. if they simply charge a card …. that is no good … a map is a starting point for proper adjustment. You filter Air … You do mean BIG SUCKER ???… if so good choice ….. the cleaner air Screamin Eagle is much better than stock HD ….. but do not hold a candle to the K & N filter uses DEEPER Ness …… GOOD CHOICE. Here are my recommendations for oil ……… As much I love HD …. I hate to say this, but HD does not know SH * T about oil synthesis. For decades, they were told not to run synthetic in their engines ….. Due to popular demand by the public HD has finally emerged with their years SYN3 synthetic oil, there are several, but he is honest is not worth a shit. THE BEST 3 SYNTHETIC ARE FOR HARLEY # AMSOIL-1, # 2-LUCAS, # 3-Mobil1 (which is recommended by S & S). I work on HD engines and building performance, drag racing and dyno tuning for 20 years and have run Amsoil for years, but they recently changed over to Lucas because he is just as good but a bit cheaper. AND THEY DO NOT AND WILL NOT void your warranty first ……… DO NOT RUN HD SYN3 ….. IT'S JUNK ……… I AM A CERTIFIED TECH HD, AND I'll tell you FIRST HAND …. HD DO NOT KNOW JACK oils on !!!!!!!!! For deacdes, HD said never ran synthetic in their engines, because …. it will cause the bearings to "skate "……… but ask anyone on the drag strip running a 800 + HP Top Fuel engine they run ……. ……. FULL SYNTHETIC their bearings Don 't skate! At the request of the general public, finally released their HD SYN3 the early 2000's …… manufactured by Sunoco. SO …….. As Other guys have said, summary does your engine run cooler and lubricates much better than standard oil. The best summary is to run 1) or AMSOIL Lucas 2) Mobil 1 It is OK to perform the same synthesis in primary as you didn'……. engine, but NEVER use the same oil on the trans. HD said that you can, but it makes transportation difficult and noisy to move …… 75/90 minimum run oil report …… hands down absolute best oil Trans market is RED LINE full synthetic anti-shock 85/140…it make your trans runs smoother, quieter and easy transfer.
