What are the best air purifiers for removing cigarette smoke?
I have a neighbor who smokes heavily and is delivered straight to my room, I live in a house with two floors and I breathe in the smoke per day and over night. I have two air purifiers, Holmes is a HEPA air purifier, the second is taken from Hamilton Beach Febreeze air purifier, I also use a vaporizer to help me breathe easier. Anyone know a good air purifier to eliminate the smoke?

Chrome and polished aluminum wheels look great, but require just a little extra effort to protect that factory finish and shine. Painted and clear coated custom wheels are more forgiving, but should still be handled with care to protect your investment. For all wheels, a simple hand washing with a mild dish soap and water will clean them up nicely. Dry thoroughly and finish with a soft nonabrasive cream wax to protect the wheel. Keep in mind that you should never wash a wheel when it is hot. Spraying cold water on your wheels when they are very hot can cause rapid contraction resulting in slight warping as well as stresses between different materials like chrome and underlying steel or aluminum. Over time, these shocks to the wheel can cause the chrome to begin flaking. Also avoid abrasive materials like bristle brushes and steel wool that can permanently scratch your wheels. Plus, always keep harsh cleaners including tire cleaners from coming into to contact with your wheels and damaging the finish.
Rules of Thumb
Washing your custom wheels once a week will keep road grime and brake dust from being ground on. When brake dust and other road dirt accumulate they will trap salts and moisture in the air that can react with chrome and aluminum finishes causing oxidation and pitting.
Avoid frequently using commercial car washes whose equipment could scratch your wheels and whose detergents are often very harsh. Also carefully check the label before using any wheel brake dust cleaner — many are too acidic to use on chromed wheels.
Winter weather and snow should be avoided at all cost. Corrosive salt and abrasive sand will wreak havoc on any finish. Put your factory wheels on for winter driving and save your custom wheels for the prime cruising weather.
When in doubt as to how to clean and protect your custom wheels, the products you use to clean and protect the body of your car can usually be used safely. But as always, take a minute to read the labels for any warnings.
Handling Minor Scrapes
Damage from curbs and other objects are unsightly, but usually not a real safety concern. On painted wheels a touch-up may be possible with matching paint ordered from the manufacturer. Scratches on aluminum may be buffed out if not too deep. But there is no real fix for scratched chrome. If you curb your chrome wheels, immediately apply a clear lacquer, like clear nail polish to reseal the chrome. After that has dried, also apply a light coat of non-abrasive cream wax. This should keep any moisture from getting underneath the chrome and causing it bubble up or peel away from the underlying wheel.

Where Can I find a HEPA air purifier that doesn’t emit ozone?
I have researched different filtration systems and I believe that some of them may still emit ozone even though they don’t specifically say. Has anyone used a particular one with an Umbrella Cockatoo and/or a Severe Macaw? This is a serious matter to me because I have asthma and I love my birds, so please, no puns or jokes. Thank you.
Oreck makes an air purifier that does not produce ozone. And the nice thing about it is that you don’t get sucked into having to buy new filters all the time. You just wash the one that comes with the unit. You pay a little more initially, but they are better made and you save in the long run.
I know what you mean about wanting to keep your birds safe.

Does air travelling through an electrostatic filter (like Filtrete) get ionized?
I’ve heard that ionized air can be potentially harmful (i.e. free radicals) so I want to avoid air cleaners that ionize air. The 3M Filtrete electrostatic polyolefin-based filters (very common in furnace filters, and now as part of a standalone air purifier) are pre-charged with a static charge to attract dirt, dust, and particles of inflowing air.
My question is, as air travels through the filter (via a fan) is there any way that it could pick up any of the charge on the electrostatic filter, or that the air can become somewhat ionized in any way or form after it leaves the filter? Now, AFAIK, air doesn’t conduct charges well, so my guess would be no, but I’d like to have an expert opinion.
they are missnamed, they dont truly ionize air. they clean the air by allowing the elctrostatic charge to cause impurities to stick to the filters, but the air itself does not ionize. ionized gases tend to glow and release heat.

Air Purifiers - Help Choosing?
I am looking for an Air Purifier/Filter for my Room. Right now I am in a dorm room, about 15×15 feet not including the sink area and entrance. I wanted to get an air purifier that would give me some fresh air. Right now I have a tabletop Sharper Image Ionic Breeze and I notice a small difference in the air quality. Is my Oreck Air 7 bad? Does it create ozone?
I have been looking online and I see that air purifiers can be bad but I am not sure if mine is. Should I keep the ionizing switch off? Is it actually doing anything for me? I have some allergies and I am not sure if this could be helping or not

Recommend a good air purifier / cleaner that cleans the air and above all really good smoke cigarettes?

Why would you want to ionize air?
I’ve heard that many air purifiers have ionizers in them (I have one two), and I have never really understood the importance or the goal of ionizing the air. Besides the reasons on a quantum scale, why would you want ionize the oxygen and what does it do for us as humans?
Steven is talking about UV lamps, not ionizing air purifiers. They are completely different. The reason they want to ionize the air is because the dust particles and soot and other junk in the air is more easily ionized. They can then have a metal filter that has a voltage on it that pulls the ionized junk onto it. Thus, the ionized filter can pull the junk out of the air more efficiently than other filters. They can also be more quiet, as they do not need moving parts to create airflow.
The problem with these filters it that they create ozone. If they ionize oxygen, ozone can form. Ozone is good for us in the upper atmosphere, where it blocks bad radiation from the sun. However, ozone in the low atmosphere is really bad for us, if we breath it. So you should avoid ionizing air filters because the ozone is going to hurt you more in the long run. This is actually why the Sharper Image went out of business. They faced too many lawsuits relating to their Ionic Breeze air filters and the company went out of business.
